Map Pedometer shows "Run/Walk", "Cycle", "Drive", and "Straight Line"; however, when I am walking on google-marked paths, only the "Straight Line" works. Shouldn't "Run/Walk" and "Cycle" work for these marked paths as "Drive" works on the streets?

The "Run/Walk" and "Cycle" modes are used to create path segments along roads or trails for which Google Maps has routing information. When Google Maps has the routing information, a path segment between two points will be created which follows the path. Google Maps does not have routing information for all off-road paths even if they are shown as paths on the map. In those cases, you will see that a route will typically be created on a path near the current location.

The "Straight Line" mode is used to create paths along areas where Google Maps routing information does not exist. Zooming in on the map before creating your points will allow you to follow the curves of the path. If Google Maps does not have routing information for a path, the "Straight Line" mode is the only way to create a Map Pedometer route over the path. In some cases, Google Maps may only have routing information for a portion of a path. In those cases, you can switch between "Straight Line" and "Run/Walk" modes while created your Map Pedometer route.

Another difference between the routing modes is that the "Cycle" and "Drive" modes should follow the "rules of the road". For example, "Cycle" and "Drive" routes should only be created in one direction on a one way street. The "Run/Walk" mode can go either direction on a one way street.

You can freely switch between routing modes while creating your Map Pedometer route.
